Coventry Men Urged to Get Checked For Prostate Cancer Following Former PM’s Diagnosis
Lord David Cameron revealed on Monday that he has been recently diagnosed and treated for prostate cancer.
In a statement to the Times, the former Prime Minister said, “You always dread hearing those words. And then literally as they’re coming out of the doctor’s mouth, you’re thinking, ‘Oh, no, he’s going to say it. He’s going to say it. Oh God, he said it.’”
According to the Times, he was encouraged to get checked after hearing Nick James, owner of high-end private member’s club, Soho House, talking about his own diagnosis on the radio.
Prostate cancer will impact 1 in 8 men in the UK, and is the most common cancer among men.
Coventry and Warwickshire Prostate Cancer Support Group aims to help men in the area who are suffering from prostate cancer or who are going through the process of diagnosis. They were founded by “a group of men who have all had prostate cancer. Together with our wives and partners, we've come together to help men and their families going through what we have all experienced.”

They hold frequent prostate health awareness events where men can get advice on the signs of cancer, and can get checked. They also offer at-home test kits. They recommend men over 40 get a PSA check frequently, a blood test that detects PSA levels, as early detection is the key to early treatment.
