Friday marks the 85th anniversary of the Coventry Blitz, and the city has organised a number of events to remember everything the city lost during that devastating night. There will be five events taking place on the day, which involve civic service and vigil, Great Blitz Build, Coventry Blitz tour, Blitz Remembered, and a Blitz-themed history walk.
Whilst the city will always remember and honour the many lives lost during this period of Coventry’s history, the city also continues to work towards peace and bringing communities together in the spirit of friendship.
Coventry will be hosting a moving civic service and vigil in Coventry Cathedral and Ruins on Friday, 14 November, to mark the 85th anniversary of the Coventry Blitz.
Following the service, civic guests and service attendees will move into the Cathedral Ruins as two sirens sound at 7.10 pm to mark the exact time of the air raid in 1940. This will be followed by a 2-minute silence and an opportunity for people to pay their own respects or take a moment to remember those who suffered so much on that fateful night.
Another event happening across the weekend will be Blitz Remembered, where costumed interpreters will be telling a story of the Blitz at the cathedral ruins. There will be a large screen on display showing the loss and destruction.
