Giving a Helping Hand- Leamington Based Charity Awarded for Fighting Homelessness

Another string to their well earnt bow. The Helping Hands community project in leamington has been awarded the Police and Crime Commissioner’s Community Award for Excellence.
Since it’s opening in 2015 Helping Hands have helped countless people build a new life through practical and emotional support. From soup kitchens and breakfast clubs to women and mens support groups they have dedicated their efforts into supporting those facing homelessness, poverty and hardship. They say they strive to “make everyone who comes through our door feel welcome, valued, and supported, no matter what their circumstances.

There has been a significant rise in rough sleepers in Coventry and Warwickshire with figures from Coventry City Council showing an increase of 85% from 2023 to 2024. Not only have the number of rough sleepers increased but also a high numbers of households are approaching Coventry and Warwickshire council for help. Recent data also shows front line services such as emergency accommodation and outreach teams have experienced a record number of enquiries per week, often reaching 200 calls.

Warwickshire Police praised the team for “incredible work” in the community when presenting them with this award. Warwickshire Police and Crime Commissioner Philip Seccombe was joined by the charity at Coombe Abbey Hotel on Wednesday, 22 October 2025 where they proudly accepted this achievement. They were nominated along many outstanding organisations and individuals however they were proudly recognised for their efforts in reducing vulnerability and helping prepare people for brighter futures.
