The Birmingham Film Festival is a 10-day international film celebration showcasing professional and independent films from around the world, comprising of a wide range of genres, styles, budgets, and topics, all shown in their spectacular 350-seat auditorium.

Over 5,500 guests are expected to attend the events, making the Birmingham Film Festival the largest film and media event in the West Midlands. The heart of any festival is, of course, the films, and they are showing over 200 of them. With 350 seats available and screenings free to attend, there is nowhere better to be for moviegoers!

Directors, producers, and cast members will be invited down during a Q&A session, where people from the crowd can ask questions once all the screenings have happened. The fans of these films will be gaining insight into the stuff behind the scenes by learning what goes into making each idea a reality. Alongside this, there will be numerous workshop events during the week, where fans can network with all of the professionals to gain essential industry knowledge and much more.

The organizer of BFF and fellow filmmaker Dean Williams stated, “The Birmingham Film Festival is so special because of the people involved, not only watching the films but people making them as well.”

He then went on to say, “The good thing is, people do come back year in and year out, so we get to see their development. For example, somebody would enter a screenplay into the script competition, then, then turn that script into a short film in the following year.”

The Birmingham Film Festival is an essential thing to be a part of for multiple people getting into the industry. This allows you to learn, develop, and be creative within the means available to you, as a lot of independent films are focused on the story rather than the big budget.

There is a range of awards given to films that are considered the best in each of their categories. The judges at the Birmingham Film Festival celebrate all aspects of film and screen production. To end a great week, there will be an awards gala with the top films taking home awards such as the BFF Bull Award, Best Feature Film, Best Short Film, Best Documentary, and Best Animated Film, just to name a few.

The gala event will be bigger and better than ever to celebrate the 10th anniversary, including a red carpet, dressing up, and having photos taken in front of the paparazzi. This allows everyone to put their hair down after working incredibly hard throughout the event and potentially receive praise from fellow creatives who attend the Birmingham Film Festival.
