The noughty or nice list

Diving into the nostalgia-filled era of the early 2000s, we’re unlocking memories you forgot you had. From the iconic fashion trends to the unforgettable music hits, we'll be reminding you of all the things that made your childhood so special.

It began with the more traditional Chatterbox games, keeping us entertained during long car rides and boring classes. Around the same time the McDonald's happy meal toys were at their peak, giving us ipods and the clicky cameras showing us quick flicks and playing the songs of all our favourite pop stars and bands at the time.

Jai Bainzy, 20 year old Musician listed his favourite artists from the early 2000s.

“I remember having one for Chip, back when they called him Chipmunk. And I think I had one for the Black Eyed Peas too, I can’t lie that was the best era for the Mcdonalds toys. They really did their thing”.

Do you remember the craze of Loom bands and Silly bands? These colourful elastic trends were the foundation of many friendships. Swapping and exchanging the bracelets and shapes gave a lot of us a real sense of joy. And we can’t forget the excitement of collecting Scoubidou’s. These colourful plastic lacing strings had so many of us obsessed with learning how to braid them for the perfect keyring.

As technology began to take over, games like Movie Star Planet, Sims, Club Penguin, Moshi Monsters and Bin Weavles were our go-to online hangouts, where we made new friends and explored virtual islands. Moses Obie, 19 year old Nottingham University student spoke about his virtual experience.

“I used to play Club Penguin, it was just cool to have like a separate life online. It wasn’t serious but as a kid you get so excited about it. It’s all I wanted to do when I got home from school”

And when we needed a break from the virtual worlds, we played Friv & Girl Go Games and got lost in their addictive simplicity. Movie Star Planet allowed us to live the glamorous life of a celebrity, while Sims let us create and control our own virtual families. And then there were the old road map rugs that we’d run our own towns on if we were in the mood for a more real life escape.

And finally the music that gave some of us our inspiration and the musicians that gave us our first fangirl moments. Iconic artists like Michael Jackson, Brittany Spears, Rihanna and Justin Timberlake took the spotlight when it came to the solo acts. And with groups such as JLS, One Direction and Black Eyes Peas, we were really given a variety of music to choose from. But I think we can all agree, when it came to buying the CD’s, Now that’s what I call music took the crown.

Looking back at all these memories of the 2000s, reminiscing about the fashion, music, and pop culture moments that defined that era reminds us of a time filled with innocence, growth, and endless possibilities. Let's hold onto these memories and cherish them, knowing that they have shaped who we are today. So, here's to the 2000s and all the wonderful memories they gave us.
