Penn Readies Attacking Shortlist

Halesowen Town Manager, Russ Penn may be forced to use the transfer market to end his side’s goalscoring woes.

The Yeltz suffered their second loss in five days on Saturday afternoon, after a home defeat at the hands of Leek Town. The defeat saw Penn’s side tumble out of their second cup competition of the week, after losing at Aveley in the FA Cup on Tuesday night.

McAuley Manning ended a goalless run of five competitive halves of football for Town who missed a considerable amount of opportunities during 90 minutes. Yet within minutes of being back on terms, Leek substitute Lucas Weir tapped home to end all hopes of an FA Trophy run.

Penn began by stating how imperative taking chances are when they arrive:

“They took two of their chances today and we didn’t take many of ours. That’s simple end of it really. We can’t have the amount of possession we had today and not win games.”

When tasked upon whether confidence was to play for his side’s goalscoring woes, Penn offered a warning to his players,

“The longer the failure to score goals go on, it’s obvious some may feel the pressure. But unfortunately that’s football. If you can’t handle the pressure, we’ll bring someone in who can. We must put teams to bed, I think it’s fairly clear to see what we need as a team.”

“I personally believe that what we need is in those changing rooms at this point, but if they can’t show me that, I may need to look elsewhere.”

Penn and his team will now revert back to focussing on league fixtures, with a test at Royston Town next time out.

“In the league we’re coming off the back of two wins in as many games. We’ll ensure that we get this disappointment out of our system now. All we can do is prepare harder both mentally and physically, to get a result next week and move into the play off places.”
