6 Months in the making, Coventry Pub finally reopens its doors
The Ardvark in Butts coventry reopens after being shut since January
Despite shutting earlier this year, new management has allowed for a breath of new life to run through the establishments doors, with it opening back up on May 30th to the warm reception of many local drinkers.
While a reason for the pubs sudden closure was never given, a spokesperson from the company Stonegate, who own all pubs under the “Scream” chain, had promised in a statement that “The Aardvark is currently closed, but there are plans to reopen it in the future." reassuring customers, particularly students, that all was not said and done for the historic establishment. It had an easy to navigate open plan design and an abundance of pool tables, helping to create an atmosphere that appealed directly to the city's university students, who as previously mentioned, were the main customers.
The Aardvark has a rich history, dating all the way back to its original opening in 1830 under the name The Hen and Chicken. It would go through many alterations, notably in the 1900s when the name was again changed, this time to the Fowl and Firkin, before finally landing on the Aardvark in the 1980s.
However, in January of this year the place suddenly shut its doors without warning, then later became totally boarded up, to the shock of many. The windows were covered by metal sheets and the outlook looked bleak with no exact timeline being given as to when we would see the grand reopening.
However, a Facebook post would soon reassure many, as a new account under their name appeared with the message "Good things come to those who wait. Opening under new management. We can not wait to meet you all." Although they had origionally planned on a May 28th opening, the new team was forced to delay due to some shipping issues, despite this they did not seem detered saying"We can not wait till our doors are open again and greeting the new and old." and on the 30th they were back up and running like they’d never left.
With pubs like the Black Horse and The Hamptons closing recently, the fact that local drinkers aren’t left high and dry by another establishment will be welcomed by everyone.
