A small Ford is returning but it won’t be called Fiesta, with four other all-new passenger vehicles for Europe by the end of 2029.
Ford is set to return to the small car market with a new rally-bred electric supermini that will combine distinct design with signature driving dynamics, but it most likely won't be called 'Fiesta'.
Stefan Tinnemann, Product Communications for Ford in Europe comments.
“Ford has NOT announced the return of the Ford Fiesta. What we have confirmed is that by the end of 2029, we will launch five all-new passenger vehicles, made in Europe for Europe”
Ford is set to unleash five all-new passenger vehicles and two work-ready commercial vehicles that combine the off-road DNA from a century of racing heritage with on-road performance, as part of a new European strategy called ‘Ready Set Ford’.
Ford’s new small car rival - The VW ID. Polo
In 2023 Ford abandoned the small car segment by axing the Ford Fiesta. Whilst they haven’t been present in the small car segment, one of the Blue Oval’s competitors has made advancements in electrifying its small car, the VW ID. Polo. The VW ID. Polo, with the larger 52kWh battery leads the way in electric supermini segment, beating close rivals like the Renault 5. It will be available to purchase in November 2026 and the company will continue selling the petrol VW Polo.
Will the new small Ford be able to compete against its closest rival the ID. Polo? Greta Höhne, VW Spokesperson comments when being asked about the competition.
“The ID. Polo is positioned as an everyday EV that goes beyond purely urban mobility. Its proposition combines an accessible price starting from £23,945, with up to 281 miles (454 kilometres) of WLTP range, five seats, generous practicality and DC fast charging as standard.
Rather than focusing on a single competitor or specification, we see the ID. Polo’s strength in the overall package: a compact, efficient electric car that combines accessibility with the design, technology, comfort and everyday versatility customers expect from a Volkswagen.”
